COVID-19 security measures in our practice: what you need to know

20 Apr 2021 | COVID-19

From February 2020 different security measures have become an integral part of our lives: bringing the mask, wash up frequently hands and maintain the distance between people are now habits that we practice without (almost) realizing it.

The dentists' offices, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, have always been accustomed to operating by following strict sanitary measures: in fact, dentists have always been in contact with patients' saliva and blood.

These measures since February 2020 have become stricter and more specific, covering the typical modes of transmission of SARS-COV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) that require special attention by dentists and, also, by patients.

Numerous studies have been done regarding The effectiveness of sanitation standards implemented in dental practices.i and it has been shown that, in Italy as well as abroad, infections occurring in dental settings are extremely low (less than 1%), an important demonstration of how, if applied correctly, these regulations are critical in stemming the spread of SARS-COV-2.

Understandably, the pandemic caused fear and concern, and many people preferred to put off periodic checkups at the dentist with unfortunately very negative effects: the oral health of Italians has significantly deteriorated, also the accomplice of stress and changes in habits related to lockdown.

Even during this period, however, it continues to be necessary (and safe) to visit the dentist for checkups and to continue any care and/or treatment plans: to be completely transparent, we explained all the COVID-19 security measures in place in our study.
