Bamboo toothbrushes: are they as effective as "traditional" ones?

3 Jul 2022 | Curiosities

According to recent estimates, In the United States alone, about 1 billion toothbrushes are thrown in the trash each year: Imagine how much the number grows if we take into consideration not only the U.S., but the whole world!

Most of these toothbrushes will end up in the seas, oceans and beaches, polluting the marine ecosystem and causing a huge problem globally.

The Traditional toothbrushes are made of plastic (different types of plastics, and this makes it impossible to recycle them) but fortunately more and more people are choosing to use a'More sustainable alternative: bamboo toothbrushes.

Bamboo is a natural material obtained from the flexible, hardy plant of the same name that can grow very quickly; it also has antibacterial properties that allow it to be grown without using toxic substances.

It is a 100% "green" solution? Not really: Bamboo toothbrush bristles are composed of nylon and therefore are not biodegradable; but the environmental impact of a toothbrush is mainly caused by the handle and that of bamboo toothbrushes, being made of wood, is at the 100% compostable.

There are no differences in "effectiveness" between bamboo and traditional toothbrushes: pay attention only to the Bristles that should always be soft, never hard or medium!
