COVID-19 security measures in our practice: what you need to know

20 Apr 2021 | COVID-19

From February 2020 different security measures have become an integral part of our lives: bringing the mask, wash up frequently hands and maintain the distance between people are now habits that we practice without (almost) realizing it.

The dentists' offices, even before the COVID-19 pandemic, have always been accustomed to operating by following strict sanitary measures: in fact, dentists have always been in contact with patients' saliva and blood.

Queste misure da febbraio 2020 si sono fatte più rigide e specifiche, contemplando le modalità di trasmissione tipiche di SARS-COV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) that require special attention by dentists and, also, by patients.

Numerous studies have been done regarding l’efficacia delle norme igienico sanitarie messe in atto negli studi dentistici e si è dimostrato che, in Italia come all’estero, infections occurring in dental settings are extremely low (meno dell’1%), una dimostrazione importante di come, se applicate correttamente, queste norme sono fondamentali nell’arginare la diffusione di SARS-COV-2.

Understandably, the pandemic caused fear and concern, and many people preferred to put off periodic checkups at the dentist with unfortunately very negative effects: la salute orale degli italiani è sensibilmente peggiorata, complice anche lo stress e i cambiamenti nelle abitudine legati al lockdown.

Even during this period, however, it continues to be necessary (and safe) to visit the dentist for checkups and to continue any care and/or treatment plans: to be completely transparent, we explained all the COVID-19 security measures in place in our study.
